Lectures at Texas Magic Supply

Want to lecture at Texas Magic Supply?
We would love to have you lecture with us.  Over the years we have hosted some of the best lecturers in the magic community including:   Daryl, Michael Ammar, Bill Malone, and many, many others.  We would love to have you lecture for us.

 Where are the lectures held?
Our lectures are held either at Texas Magic Supply or at River Place Country Club.   Every magician we have hosted at River Place Country Club tells us that it is one of the nicest places they have ever lectured.    River Place offers us huge rooms with as many tables as needed; beautiful views; food, beverage and alcohol.  Simply put - this is the best place to hold a lecture.

Do we pay the person giving the lecture?
Usually not.    "WHAT?!"  I hear you cry!
The actual definition of a lecture is "an oral presentation intended to present information or teach people about a particular subject."   Somewhere along the way the magic community has evolved to the point where now most magic ‘lectures’ focus on promoting and selling the lecturer’s own items, gimmicks and DVDs.   This is your infomercial and we can still support you with this endeavor -- but please don't ask us to pay you so that you can sell your items.

One of the best lectures in our history was a 45 minute talk by Bill Malone explaining the life of Ed Marlo.  He shared personal details about Marlo, card moves he learned from Marlo, etc.   At the end of the lecture during a Q and A session, someone asked what he was selling.   Bill quickly pointed out that this was a lecture - not a commercial.

If you are coming to lecture - and by lecture, I mean pass along information, history or to teach or host a clinic for magicians then we will consider paying a fee.
It still costs us money!  If we host the lecture at River Place Country Club, we pay the room fee to use the facility, and make food and beverage arrangements (depending on the expected size of the crowd, this may or may not be complimentary for the attendee).  If we host it at Texas Magic Supply, we will bring in free food and drinks (adult beverages too)for the attendees.  In the weeks/months prior to the lecture date, we market and promote the upcoming event and get the magic community excited about attending.

So, if we don't pay you - do we charge a fee to the participants?
Usually not, however, this is your choice.  We have found that a lot more magicians in the area will show up if the event is free, and they tend to be more willing to purchase the lecturer’s items.  If you would like us to charge, we will and then pass all of the attendance fees collected to you.

What about meals & lodging?
Lecturers are responsible for all of the costs of their travels.  We have many friends in the magic community that would be happy to have you stay at their home so you can avoid the expense of a hotel, and we can put you in contact with them if you desire this.  We can also sell a limited number of tickets to a private breakfast or dinner with you, and after all of the meals have been covered, any remaining money from the sale of the ticket would go to you.  Or we can simply give members of our magic community the opportunity to take you out for a meal.

So, now what?
If you want to lecture with us on a topic,  simply demo your tricks and sell them, or if you happen to be traveling through the Austin, TX area and want to stop by our shop, please email us at cy@albertsonmusic.com.   We would love to have you join us.
